This is a score that re-imagines DJ Kool's "Let Me Clear My Throat."  The original version of DJ Kool's song is made up of two primary samples in Kool & the Gang's "Hollywood Swinging" and Marva Whitney's "Unwind Yourself." This version uses those samples as the basis of a newly notated horn arrangement. In this piece, the notated horn arrangement - based on the samples - lives alongside warped imagery of various logos, a drawing of an illegal chokehold from a police manual, images of Marva Whitney and some text that I wrote. The hope is to decipher an underlying radicalism within the poetic refrain of the chorus let me clear my throat.
